SATIRE: This is parody. Not a real news report.

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND — After a months-long journey through what officials describe as ‘the system,’ a shipment of cold air was finally delivered Saturday to the South Padre Island Post Office, where it was signed for by Congressman Vicente Gonzalez and immediately logged as arriving in ‘acceptable condition, considering.’

The cool air, originally dispatched sometime around Memorial Day, had been delayed due to standard HVAC routing procedures, which sources say involve the unit being placed on a shelf in a San Antonio warehouse and thought about occasionally. In the interim, the post office operated under its official Summer Ventilation Protocol, in which the front doors were secured open with zip ties, windows were cracked ‘for airflow,’ and the lobby was permitted to reach a balmy 99 degrees — a temperature employees confirmed using the only working instrument on-site: themselves.

Cold Air Held At Facility Pending Signature

Customers arriving to pick up packages were greeted by what one islander of 40 years called ‘a burst of hot air,’ which residents noted was also the facility’s official customer service philosophy during the outage. The counter went unmanned for stretches, and the office printer overheated and had to be sent home early, though coworkers say it had been carrying the whole operation for years and deserved the rest.

‘We were aware the air conditioning was not arriving,’ said a USPS spokesperson, fanning themselves with a roll of Forever stamps. ‘We positioned portable units nearby, distributed water, and offered employees extra breaks to stand outside, where it was cooler. As for a delivery timeline, we don’t give timelines. Timelines create expectations. Expectations create congressmen.’

Indeed, the cold air only moved once Gonzalez intervened, personally tracking the shipment and announcing its arrival on a Saturday — the traditional day for confirming that a beach-town federal building can once again refrigerate itself during an island August.

Residents Urged Not To Request Forwarding

Now that the cold air has been received, the post office asks customers to be patient while it is processed. ‘The air is here, but it hasn’t been sorted yet,’ said a clerk, gesturing at a thermostat still in its packaging. ‘Right now all the cool air is sitting in one corner. If everyone crowds that corner, it’s going to be July again real quick.’

Officials confirmed the HVAC system has been fully replaced, not merely patched, marking the first time a Valley government service has been upgraded rather than zip-tied. A small ceremony is planned, pending the room cooling below 90.

Additional reporting by a printer that has since returned to work.
